Deformation Surveys
Gem Land Surveying deformation surveys and services are designed to support specialised engineers in the analyses of structural deformation of buildings and structures and to assist in the formation of a risk assessment and action plan for the future.
Deformation of structures and buildings can take many forms and often the worst of it is not visible from the structures exterior, these changes generally happen slowly over many years and are only usually discovered when visible cracks start to appear in walls, braces and ceilings.
The role of the Gem team in capturing deformation is a consistent presence over time to take repeated measurements of key locations to map the starting point, where we are now and the potential changes that have occurred below the surface.
Deformation surveys are achieved through a mixture of manual and automatic measurements, utilising state of the art systems and technologies.
What causes deformation?
– Deformation can occur for a number of reasons, the most common being:
– Natural seismic activity
– Aging structures
– Movement of the earth
– Piling
– Soil compaction issues
– Unbalanced structural loads
What structures can a deformation survey be completed for?
– Railways
– Tunnels
– Homes
– Buildings
– High rises
– Dams
– Bridges
– Beams
